SBP - Disaster Preparedness

przez SBP

Project Details
SBP is a national leader in disaster resilience and recovery, working to reduce the time between disaster and recovery so that families can rebuild their lives faster—with safety, dignity, and stability.

Founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, SBP has grown into a trusted, boots-on-the-ground nonprofit operating across the U.S. and its territories. We achieve our mission through five core interventions: build, advise, educate, advocate, and prepare—a holistic approach that drives impact before and after disaster strikes.

SBP prioritizes communities that are disproportionately impacted by disasters—including lower-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities—and works to close the gaps in access to recovery resources. Our programs provide rebuilding assistance, disaster preparedness education, and support navigating complex aid systems to ensure no one is left behind.

Our innovative programs include:
- Resilient Home Rebuilding, incorporating IBHS FORTIFIED standards
- Disaster Assistance Program (DAP), helping survivors secure the aid they deserve
- Recovery Acceleration Fund, closing the financial gaps that delay recovery
- Resilience & Recovery Fellows, placing local leaders to accelerate long-term recovery on the ground

SBP is actively responding to the long-term recovery needs created by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, while continuing to support communities rebuilding from past storms across Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and beyond.

Our Current Priority: Disaster Preparedness
While we continue to meet urgent rebuilding needs, our top priority is disaster preparedness—because every $1 invested in preparedness saves up to $11 in future losses.

SBP’s Preparedness Campaign empowers individuals, families, and organizations with:
- Risk mitigation education, including flood insurance literacy
- Resilient rebuilding resources for homeowners and contractors
- Digital toolkits for communities and civic leaders
- Community workshops and training in high-risk regions

By focusing on resilience, education, and access, we are working toward a future where fewer families are displaced, recovery is faster, and communities are stronger.

SBP is a trusted partner of FEMA, HUD, Volunteer Florida, and the Center for Disaster Philanthropy. We collaborate with corporate partners, foundations, and individuals to deliver measurable, people-centered results that strengthen families and communities for the long term.

Support SBP and help us build a more disaster-resilient nation—one family, one home, one community at a time.
