Devastating Earthquake Strikes Myanmar and Thailand
by All Hands and Hearts Smart ResponseIn the aftermath of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar and neighboring countries, All Hands and Hearts (AHAH) deployed to Thailand the following day to coordinate with trusted local partners and assess urgent needs. Working closely with organizations such as Chan Myae Myittar Development Association (CMMDA), IsraAID, and the Myanmar Red Cross Society, we reached approximately 4,400 individuals with clean water, shelter materials, clothing, hygiene kits and direct cash assistance in the first two weeks.
Many survivors remain in makeshift shelters, monasteries, or churches with limited access to electricity, clean water, or connectivity. Thanks to the dedication of local volunteers, essential supplies were distributed during Myanmar’s traditional Water Festival and New Year, bringing comfort during a time that is typically marked by celebration.
As we move from immediate relief to other scopes of recovery, AHAH is preparing to launch a comprehensive WASH program in partnership with CMMDA and IsraAID. This initiative will support 700 households by drilling boreholes for long-term water access, distributing water filtration systems and delivering hygiene education and psychosocial support to promote resilience and well-being.
