SBP – Reducing the Time Between Disaster and Recovery

von SBP

Project Details
SBP is a national leader in disaster resilience and recovery, working to reduce the time between disaster and recovery so that families can rebuild their lives faster, with safety, dignity, and stability.

Founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, SBP has grown into a trusted, boots-on-the-ground nonprofit operating across the U.S. and its territories. We achieve our mission through five core interventions: build, advise, educate, advocate, and prepare. This holistic approach drives impact before and after disaster strikes.

SBP prioritizes communities that are disproportionately impacted by disasters, including lower-income families, seniors, and people with disabilities, and works to close the gaps in access to recovery resources. Our programs provide rebuilding assistance, disaster preparedness education, and support navigating complex aid systems to ensure no one is left behind.

Our innovative programs include:
- Resilient Home Rebuilding, incorporating hurricane-resilient, IBHS FORTIFIED standards
- Disaster Assistance Program (DAP), helping survivors secure the federal recovery dollars they deserve
- Recovery Acceleration Fund, closing the financial gaps that delay recovery
- Resilience & Recovery Fellows, placing local leaders to accelerate long-term recovery on the ground

SBP is actively responding to the long-term recovery needs created by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, while continuing to support communities rebuilding from past storms across Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and beyond.

Our Current Priority: Home for the Holidays

This holiday season, you can be the reason families impacted by disasters finally return home. Your support ensures families recovering from recent hurricanes continue moving toward safety, stability, and peace of mind.
And right now, every gift made by December 31, 2025 will be doubled through a generous $100,000 match, helping twice as many families rebuild before the end of the year.
Every gift changes lives. Just ask Angela Bristol.
For 30 years, Angela’s home in Daytona Beach, Florida, was her refuge. It was the place her daughter grew up, where her grandchildren gathered, and where cherished memories were made. Then two powerful hurricanes nearly washed it all away.
In 2022, Hurricane Ian flooded her home and ripped shingles from the roof, leaving leaks and a sense of fear with every storm forecast. Two years later, Hurricane Milton hit even harder, destroying belongings, crushing her car, and worsening the roof damage. Angela felt overwhelmed and unsure where to turn.
Then she found SBP.
Thanks to the support of donors like you, SBP rebuilt Angela’s home and installed a new IBHS FORTIFIED roof designed to withstand hurricane-force winds. After years of uncertainty, Angela finally felt safe at home again.
Families like Angela’s are still waiting for that same relief.
SBP’s goal is to bring 52 more families home before the end of the year, but we cannot do it without partners like you.
Your generosity helps families regain not just their homes, but their security, resilience, and hope for the future.
Join us in bringing more families Home for the Holidays.
